Grief Support

Bereavement Groups

Parent/Caregiver Loss Group

We offer free evening support groups, twice monthly, for children and teens ages 7-18 and their caregivers who have experienced a meaningful death loss. Group nights start at 6:30 pm and run approximately 2 hours. Each group is facilitated by a clinician and a grief-informed volunteer.

After School Groups

Our Kids Club and Kid’s Crew are specifically designed to meet the needs of our younger grievers, ages 3-10. These free groups run twice monthly, in the afternoon starting at 4:15 pm, and use art, books, and play to explore and express feelings. While children are meeting, caregivers also meet in their own support group. Each group is facilitated by a clinician and a grief-informed volunteer.

Sibling / Child Loss Group

We offer a free group night for those families who have experienced the death of a child/ sibling. While parents meet in a group, children and teens meet with other bereaved siblings, ages 5-18. These groups run twice monthly, starting at 6:00 pm with a pizza dinner, and run for approximately two hours. Each group is facilitated by a clinician and a grief-informed volunteer.

Substance Use Loss Group

We are excited to share that we are starting a new group and are accepting applications. Families who have experienced a death due to substance use often experience stigma and shame in addition to the myriad ripple effects of grief. We offer free evening support groups, twice monthly, for children and teens and their caregivers in collaboration with The Sun Will Rise Foundation. Group nights start at 6:30 pm with a pizza dinner and run for approximately 2 hours. Each group is facilitated by a clinician and a grief-informed volunteer.

Young Adult Group

Our YA Group supports individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 who have experienced a meaningful death loss. This group is free and held on  the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm through Zoom.

Grandparent Grief Support Group

This daytime group is designed for grandparents supporting a grieving grandchild. This free daytime group will run virtually once a month.

Specialized Support Groups

At times, there is a need for a limited number of sessions with a group of children or adolescents who are impacted by the same loss, such as the death of a peer or teacher. We will work with community members as needed to tailor services. For more information, email info@jeffsplace.org.

School Groups

Jeff’s Place offers school-based grief support groups in the MetroWest community. We facilitate groups in local elementary, middle, and high schools. These groups are planned and co-facilitated with school staff. For more information, email info@jeffsplace.org.

Other Offerings

Individual Counseling

We recognize that not everyone feels comfortable in a group setting or sometimes might need more individualized support as everyone grieves in their own unique way. We offer grief counseling to individuals on a sliding scale from $0-150 per hour as needed and available. We cannot accept insurances because we do not use diagnostic codes.

Anticipatory Death and Crisis Intervention

Death can often leave a community struggling and reeling. We provide specialized support to communities in anticipation of or just after a death. We can tailor support to help plan and have difficult conversations around grief and provide tools and resources. For example, we can help create a comprehensive and consistent Loss & Grief Manual proactively. In the case of a pending death or unanticipated death, we can offer support and services for administration, staff, and others. We have supported schools, places of worship, businesses and corporations, neighborhoods, etc. Our clinicians provide the emotional space along with best practices to hold a community during this difficult time. Family Consultations

Sometimes, finding the right words to talk to a child about death is hard. We offer family consultations to help support and guide that conversation. Our initial consultations by phone or in person are free of charge. For more information, email info@jeffsplace.org.
